Course overview
The Point-of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) for the Healthcare Professional course was developed to meet the educational needs of clinicians using PoCUS in a variety of settings including the operating room, emergency room and intensive care unit.
The course is comprised of eight modules covering a variety of ultrasound applications including airway, gastric, pulmonary and transthoracic/transesophageal echocardiography including the FAST and FATE protocols. Along with the fundamentals of each application, clinical utility is addressed through the use of course materials including lessons, readings, videos and tests.

Course author
John Shields DNP, CRNA
John Shields is a cardiovascular anesthetist practicing at Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute in Nashville Tennessee, with over 30 years of clinical and leadership experience. He is also faculty at Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia with the Acute Surgical Pain Management Fellowship (ASPMF).
His clinical practice involves transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography along with Point-of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS). In addition to full clinical duties, hands-on ultrasound workshops are offered through POCUSLab.
